The Nelson Downriver Race is intended for anyone interested in canoe or kayak racing - from novices to national champions. Our goal is to promote recreation, conservation and sportsmanship through paddling rivers and lakes in and around Nelson County, Virginia.

Action at Rock Pile Rapid. The father/son team of Greg and Zach Grant pose for a photo op. The Grants won the Outstanding Paddler Award mostly due to their photogenic charm. Tom Brubach glides through Rock Pile Rapid despite being weighted down by 98 old race stickers. Dave Dolak becomes airborne in his Cobra Viper Wildwater boat. Tom Eick poles his way through, oblivious to the rocks below.
