The Nelson Downriver Race is intended for anyone interested in canoe or kayak racing - from novices to national champions. Our goal is to promote recreation, conservation and sportsmanship through paddling rivers and lakes in and around Nelson County, Virginia.

Fast and Furious Paddling is the order of the day. In deference to Ed Sharp and Kirk Haven's reputation for a no-holds-barred racing style, Kade and Karla Havens give them a wide berth as they power through. Matt Swift rose to fame by ignoring the old adage, "Don't stand up in a canoe!". Sue and Ethan Saleba show young Sami how to maneuver through the Tye's numerous rocks and ledges. An unidentified couple become the first entry in the new "Submarine" class. Oops!
