The Nelson Downriver
Canoe and Kayak Race
2003
Food and Awards After the Race
The Outstanding Paddler Award occupies a place of honor at the Nelson County Tourism Office in Lovingston. The office was visited by more than 14,000 persons last year alone. This honor role of paddlers goes back to 1997.
Each year the name of the award winner is incribed onto a brass plate that is placed onto a paddle displayed in the Nelson County, VA Visitor's Center. An additional wooden paddle was inscribed and given to the winner of the award at the culmination of the awards ceremony.
Jimbo Carey's mello banjo playing keeps everyone laid-back and relaxed.
Sue Saliba cradles the odds-on favorite for the 2020 race.
Sammy gazes into his mother's eyes and sees two canoes above. Imprinting is important.
Obviously, Joanne and Anne enjoyed the day.
The race is over, everyone's been fed and the partying winds down.
